Ol Tukai Lodge Amboseli, Kajiado Kenya

You stay at Ol Tukai Lodge on the edge of Amboseli National Park, with Kilimanjaro rising to the southeast. Eighty chalet-style rooms face either the wetlands or the mountain, built in the lodge’s original footprint from 1996. Each room has a private terrace, a tea and coffee counter, and a safe. The lodge also holds two rooms adapted for wheelchair access, with ramps and flexible bathroom fittings.

The lodge sits in a park known for its elephants — herds move through the wetlands below, and the lodge runs an elephant research center. Rangers and scientists track births, deaths, and social behavior; some findings are shared with guests. The lodge also arranges visits to nearby Maasai villages, where you can see traditional beadwork and homes.

The dining room overlooks the wetlands, and the Elephant Bar has a rooftop deck for sundowners. The lodge holds a multi-denomination chapel and offers weddings in the park, with Maasai ceremonial troupes. Kilimanjaro, visible from most rooms, is the reason the lodge is here at all — the site was first used by the crew filming ‘The Snows of Kilimanjaro’ in 1948.
