Droombos, Windhoek Namibia

Droombos is a garden estate fifteen minutes from Windhoek, where you stay among rammed-earth buildings and camelthorn trees over five hundred years old. The lodge grows vegetables and herbs for its Birdcage Restaurant, which serves breakfast through dinner with ingredients from the garden. You can eat in the dining room or on the lawn, depending on the weather.

The estate has twenty-five rooms, including family rooms with king and three-quarter beds, and campsites with private bathrooms. Some rooms are in a century-old building with classic shutters; others have verandas looking over the gardens. The pool is shaded by the old trees.

Droombos hosts events in fourteen venues across the property, from small gatherings under grapevines to conferences for five hundred people in a rammed-earth hall. The kitchen accommodates dietary needs including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, and kosher.

The estate runs activities like game drives, cheetah encounters, and township tours in Windhoek. Back at the lodge, you can taste Namibian wines, gins, and brandies in the gardens. The Rosewood Pub serves drinks into the evening.

Droombos opened in 2019. Much of the furniture is made on-site, and the staff come from nearby communities.
