Acajou Beach Resort

You stay at Acajou Beach Resort on the sand of Cote d'Or, a timber-built property that draws half its power from solar panels. The resort has been Seychellois-owned since it opened in 1996, with rooms facing either garden or sea. Each has a balcony, air conditioning, and space for up to three people.

The timber construction runs throughout — the name comes from the French word for mahogany, though the wood used was cultivated sustainably. The solar array powers more than fifty percent of the resort's needs, and wastewater is treated on-site. These measures earned the property a place in the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label program.

Rooms are thirty-six to forty-eight square meters, with king-size beds and space for an extra single. The sea-view rooms are largest. All have minibars, safes, and tea and coffee facilities. The beach is steps away, and the pool looks out over it.

The resort supports local environmental projects, including tree planting with the Terrestrial Restoration Action Society of Seychelles. You can walk the length of Cote d'Or from the gate.
