Addo Wildlife, Addo South Africa

Addo Wildlife is an informal lodge set near Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape. You stay in chalets or cottages — some with private decks, others with kitchen facilities — and spend your days on game drives through the park. The lodge arranges guided drives in open vehicles, where you might see elephants, lions, and other wildlife moving through the bushveld.

The dining room serves meals with local ingredients, and some rooms have patios where you can sit with a drink as the light fades. The lodge is a short drive from the park gates, so morning drives start early to catch the animals at their most active. The chalets are simple but comfortable, with space for families or couples.

Addo Elephant Park, just beyond the lodge, is home to over six hundred elephants along with lions, buffalo, and rhinos. The lodge’s guides know the park’s roads and waterholes, tracking the animals by their movements and the signs they leave. You return from drives to meals at the lodge, where the day’s sightings are the usual topic of conversation.
