Elgin River Lodge

You stay at Elgin River Lodge on a working apple farm where the Palmiet River runs for two and a half kilometers through the property. The hundred-hectare land holds orchards, trails, and chalets built for groups — nine twin units, six family chalets, and a self-catering villa with direct river access. The villa has a river-water swimming pool and requires a high-clearance vehicle to reach.

The main lodge accommodates thirty adults and eighteen children, with a bunkhouse adding space for twenty-four more. All chalets have showers, wall heaters, and tea stations. Breakfast is served buffet-style each morning in the lodge.

Trails wind through orchards and along the river, graded from easy walks to challenging hikes. The river allows kayaking, canoeing, and tubing, with a barge for slower trips. A zipline crosses the water, and there are volleyball courts and cycling routes through the farm. Children have a rope slide, small zipline, and table tennis.

The lodge hosts conferences and team-building events, with a pub and braai area for evening gatherings. It is an hour from Cape Town, set where the farm roads dip between valleys.
