Buffelsdrift Game Lodge

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge sits six kilometers outside Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo, with the Swartberg Mountains behind it. You stay in one of thirty-four luxury tents, some overlooking a five-hectare waterhole where animals come to drink. The waterhole tents have private decks for watching the wildlife; family tents have two bedrooms and space for five.

Activities focus on the animals. You can join a dawn meerkat safari to see them emerge from their burrows, or take an elephant encounter with rescued elephants. The lodge also offers bush safaris and night drives to spot caracal, genet, and porcupine. The spa has treatments using Kalahari salts and botanical clays, with views over the waterhole.

The restaurant serves Karoo cuisine with local wines from Route 62. The lodge is three hundred meters from the road to the Cango Caves, an hour from George Airport.
