Meerendal Wine Estate
Meerendal is a wine estate in Durbanville, twenty minutes from Cape Town. You come for the tasting room, where cool-climate wines are poured under a leafy pergola when the weather allows — Sauvignon Blanc with tropical and mineral notes, structured red blends, and a perfumed Pinotage. Inside, couches face a fireplace for winter tastings.
The estate holds trails for hiking and mountain biking through the vineyards, with views of the Boland Mountains. Afterward, Bossa Winelands restaurant serves wood-fired pizzas and dry-aged steaks by another fireplace, or outside where children can play.
A Cape Dutch homestead has been converted into a boutique hotel, with rooms named after grape varieties and views over the vines. The oldest vines on the property are a row of Muscat d'Alexandrie, planted in the 1930s and still producing.
The tasting room is open daily, with the last pours in late afternoon depending on the season.
