south-africa-western-cape-nobel-square
Nobel Square

Nobel Square is a quiet space at the V&A Waterfront where you can see bronze statues of South Africa's four Nobel Peace Prize winners. The figures stand larger than life, cast in bronze by local artists. A fifth sculpture acknowledges women and children's role in peace. The square sits near the harbor, with benches where you can sit and take in the view.

The statues honor Nkosi Albert Luthuli, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, FW de Klerk and Nelson Mandela for their work toward peace in South Africa. The square is open at all hours, with no fence or gate, so you can visit anytime. It is one of several public art installations around the waterfront, but the only one dedicated to the country's peace history.

You will find the square in the Portswood Ridge district, near restaurants and shops. The harbor water glints nearby, and on clear days Table Mountain fills the skyline. The sculptures face inward toward each other, as if in conversation.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0829/8256/8156/files/nobel-square-tourist-attraction-victoria-alfred-waterfront-cape-town-south-africa-01.webp?v=1783213576
