Lukenya Motorcross

You stay at Lukenya Motorcross for the quad biking and the events. The hotel sits off Mombasa Road in Athi River, thirty minutes from Nairobi, with five room types and a swimming pool. The quad bikes take you through the hills and semi-arid landscapes nearby; other activities include archery, darts, and cycling.

The rooms range from standard to deluxe, some with antique lighting fixtures and lime-green walls. The swimming pool has no deep end, marked with a sign asking guests not to add the 'P' to 'ool'. There are gazebos and restaurants serving African and continental dishes, including goat leg and samosas.

Events fill the calendar — conferences, birthdays, weddings — with spaces for up to two hundred people. The main conference hall holds fifty; the board room fits fifteen. The Buffalo Bar runs a happy hour with cocktails.

The quad bikes are the draw. You ride through dust and hills, booking in advance for thirty-minute slots or longer. The camp is unfenced, so the sounds of bikes and birds mix in the air.
