Hemelhuijs
Hemelhuijs is a café in Cape Town where you eat seasonal dishes made with local produce, some from its own farm in Montagu. The kitchen works with South African ingredients, serving all-day breakfast and meals that draw on the region’s food traditions. The space has indoor and outdoor seating, and the menu changes with what is fresh and available.
Chef Jacques Erasmus opened the café in 2009. The bread, like the mosbolletjie, is baked in-house. Drinks include wine and cocktails, with a focus on what grows nearby.
The café sits on Waterkant Street, a short walk from the city center. It is a place to eat what the season provides, at a table with a view of the street.
