You drink house beer at Clarens Brewery, a brewpub under the Maluti Mountains where the kitchen cooks with beer and the taproom serves it fresh. The brewery makes a blonde ale, an IPA, a stout and a red ale, plus seasonal batches like the Citrus Haze pale ale brewed for the 2024 craft beer festival. The kitchen pairs dishes with beer — pub food, some of it cooked with the brewery’s own stock.

The taproom takes no weekend bookings; tables turn fast, often for guests stopping in just for a drink. If the room is full when you arrive, the staff can usually clear a table in ten minutes. Families and dogs are welcome — the place is set up for both.

You can take beer home in cans or bottles, mixed and matched from the full range, or have it couriered nationwide on Mondays to Wednesdays. The brewery also sends mobile taps to events within thirty kilometres, pouring beer, cider or gin and tonic on request. The IPA is six and a half percent alcohol; the stout has chocolate and coffee aromas.
