Lake Naverone Self Catering Cottages

You stay in one of twenty-one stone cottages scattered around Lake Naverone, a private estate in the Drakensberg foothills thirty kilometres from Underberg. The cottages are built among trees and clearings, some right by the larger lake, others by the smaller one. Each comes with a private rowboat tied to its own jetty; you can bring canoes or sailboats if you prefer.

The cottages vary in size from two-bedroom options to larger family spaces sleeping ten. Some welcome pets for a small daily fee. All have kitchens with gas or anthracite stoves, fireplaces in the lounges, and verandas with braai facilities. The main lake reflects the Drakensberg’s Garden Castle peak, and benches are placed around the property for watching the light change on the water.

A thousand-metre airstrip serves guests arriving by plane. On the ground, the estate has stables with horses for guided rides along the river, plus tennis courts and trails for hiking or mountain biking. The lake holds trout for fishing. Children can hand-walk ponies or play in the open spaces between cottages.

The cottages are self-catering, with Underberg thirty kilometres away for supplies. The road there is tarred all the way.
