Roma Revolving Restaurant
You eat Italian food at Roma Revolving Restaurant on the 32nd floor of John Ross House in Durban, with the floor and windows turning a full circle every sixty to ninety minutes. The mechanism is speed-controlled; the view takes in the bay and the city below. The restaurant opened in 1973, one of only three like it in the world at the time.
The kitchen serves continental dishes, seafood and game. The wine list includes River Gold, a house wine from their Cape Town vineyard. Upstairs on the 33rd floor is a cocktail bar with city views; downstairs on the 31st is a function room for private events.
The building is tall enough that on clear days you can see the Durban Yacht Mole from the table. At night the city lights spread below as the room turns.
