You come to Die Watergat for grilled food and pizzas under the Langebaan sun, with a deck that looks west toward the water. The place is owned by Luis De Sousa, a Portuguese businessman who opened it in 2013 as a gathering spot for locals and visitors. The kitchen does grilled meats and thin-base pizzas; the bar pours brannewyn, the local spirit, into glasses that stay full.

Weekends bring live music — DJs or sokkie bands that get the dance floor going. Rugby matches play on big screens; the VIP area has a pool table and its own bar. The deck is where you sit for sunset, ordering another round as the light goes.

The restaurant is on Oostewal Road in the Free Port Centre, a short walk from the water. It has been here since 2013, serving lunches that turn into evenings, with the kitchen open until the music starts.
