Sabie Valley Coffee, White River South Africa

Sabie Valley Coffee grows, roasts and packs single-origin Arabica coffee on the slopes of the Sabie Valley in Mpumalanga. The Buckland family planted the first coffee orchards in 1980, and in 1984 they established the Sabie Valley Coffee brand and roastery to process the beans themselves.

Tours take you through the coffee-making process, from bean to cup. You step into the roastery to see the roasting process, learn about brewing methods, and taste the finished product at the espresso bar. The kitchen serves homemade cakes and pastries to accompany the coffee.

The roastery produces four roasts, from subtle to lively, and distributes its coffee across South Africa. The gift shop sells coffee-related items, and in-house barista training is available. Coffee tours can be arranged by appointment.

The Sabie Valley’s soils, altitude and climate are the reason the coffee is grown here at all — the same conditions that drew the Bucklands to the valley in 1980.
