Kwalata Game Lodge in Dinokeng Game Reserve

Kwalata Game Lodge sits in the Dinokeng Game Reserve, an hour's drive north of Pretoria and OR Tambo airport. The reserve holds free-roaming wildlife, and the lodge arranges game drives and guided walks to see it. You stay in stone-and-thatch chalets set among bushveld trees, some with outdoor showers under monkey thorn trees. The place is malaria-free, which makes it practical for families and first-night stops after flying in.

The lodge runs morning and afternoon game drives with guides, and offers bush walks for small groups. Dinokeng is one of the few reserves near Gauteng where you might see the Big Five without traveling far. The restaurant serves meals, and the thatched chapel hosts weddings with a bushveld setting.

Kwalata has been operating since 1994, built to blend into the landscape with local materials. The chalets are spaced apart in the gardens, with paths connecting them to the main lodge. It works as a stopover or for longer stays, with the reserve's wildlife moving through the area.
