You eat at Terrace @ Van Gaalen on a working dairy farm in Skeerpoort, where the kitchen uses cheese made on-site — the Gouda is pressed in the adjacent dairy. The menu leans Dutch, with cheese boards and farm-fresh ingredients, and changes seasonally on a blackboard. The dining terrace looks out over the Magaliesberg, and the farm setting means children can visit the animals or play on the jungle gym while adults linger over lunch.

The restaurant is the hub for the farm’s activities. Before or after eating, you can tour the cheese-making facility or pick up a picnic basket to take down to the Skeerpoort River. The property also connects to over a hundred kilometres of hiking and mountain biking trails through the foothills, making it a stop for both meals and outdoor time.

Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij, the dairy, has been operating here for years; the restaurant grew out of the need to feed visitors who came for cheese tours. Now it serves as a day destination, with tractor rides and enough space for families to spread out between courses.
