Treat Restaurant, Clarens South Africa

Treat Restaurant in Clarens serves French-country cuisine with a focus on seasonal local ingredients. Chef Francois Potgieter, trained at the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan, brings twenty-five years of experience to the kitchen. The menu changes with what is fresh, from slow-braised lamb shanks to seafood chowder, with a wine list of South African estates.

You can choose from three menus: breakfast, a light lunch option, and the main menu served at lunch and dinner. The breakfast includes fresh orange juice; the lunch might be cajun pork ribeye; dinner could end with chai panna cotta. The dining room has a contemporary French-country feel, with tables set for long meals and views of the surrounding area.

The restaurant opened in July 2019 after two years of construction. It sits on Main Street in Clarens, part of the Clarens Retreat Guesthouse complex. Chef Francois is often in the kitchen, working with a team that guests describe as friendly and attentive. The place has won awards, including a Rosetta Award for excellence in 2022 and spots in South Africa's Top 100 lists.
