Stonehenge in Africa / Stonehenge River Lodge, Parys South Africa

Stonehenge River Lodge sits on the Vaal River near Parys, a place built for groups who come to raft, shoot arrows, and abseil down cliffs together. The lodge holds standard twin rooms and executive suites, some with self-catering kitchens and private braai areas overlooking the water.

Teams book for the activities: archery ranges, four- and eight-kilometer rafting routes down the Vaal, paintball wars, and abseiling drops of thirteen or forty-four meters. The river is the center — you raft it, play team games on it, and return to rooms that face it. The lodge also runs game drives at cooler hours when animals move, though this is not a wildlife reserve; the focus is on the river and the activities it allows.

Rooms are simple, with fans or air conditioning, tea stations, and en-suite bathrooms. The executive block adds communal lounges with fireplaces. Weddings and conferences use the same spaces, adapting them for banquets or meetings with views of the water.

The Vaal is shallow here, more green than blue, and the lodge makes use of every meter — rafts launch from the bank, and the abseiling cliffs are river-cut. You come for the activities first, the rooms second.
