Bardelli's Restaurant
Bardelli's is an Italian restaurant on a corner in Kenilworth, where you eat wood-fired pizzas and pasta at tables under the trees. The kitchen uses imported tomato pulp with a house recipe, double-smokes its bacon and chicken, and sources local mozzarella. Pizzas come with toppings that cover the base entirely — more than most places use — and the dough is vegan unless specified otherwise.
The dining room takes its cues from Italian pizzerias, with heaters for winter and a beer garden for summer. You can convert any pizza to a calzone for an extra fee, or order from the Olympia range that serves four pizza varieties in one. The wine list focuses on South African producers, with carafes available for some selections.
Since opening in 1992, the restaurant has become a local fixture in this Cape Town suburb. It won the Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge and maintains the same corner location it started with. The tiramisu follows a traditional recipe with mascarpone and brandy.
Tables fill quickly on weekends; booking ahead is advised. The restaurant is on Wessels Road at the Kenilworth intersection, with parking along the side streets.
