You stay at the Bot River Hotel, a historic building on Main Road that has welcomed travelers since 1890. The railway arrived in 1902, linking the town to Cape Town and turning the hotel into a hub for traders and visitors. Today, the hotel has rooms with views of vineyards and canola fields, some with balconies overlooking the landscape.

The PaardenKloof Tasting Room serves local wines, and the Wagon Road Restaurant offers dishes made with regional ingredients. The stoep is a place to sit outside, eat, and watch live sports on a screen. The hotel still functions as a gathering spot for both locals and travelers, much as it did when ox-drawn wagons stopped here to offload goods over a century ago.

The square in front of the hotel was once a center of trade, where farmers sold their produce before it was loaded onto trains. Some would stop at the bar afterward, a tradition that continues today. The hotel has been renovated but keeps its historical character, with rooms that range from family suites to double bedrooms with private balconies.

Bot River is on the N2, about an hour and a half from Cape Town, at the foot of Houw Hoek Pass.
