De Vette Mossel Grootbrak | Beach Seafood Restaurant Experience
De Vette Mossel Grootbrak sits beside the beach in Great Brak River, where you eat seafood with sand underfoot and the sound of waves nearby. The kitchen serves seven courses cooked over open fires — pot bread, mussels steamed with white wine, snoek with sweet potatoes, and a seafood pot with calamari, mussels and prawns. Families gather at long tables, and children play in the wooden lighthouse playground with a sandpit, climbing wall and swings.
The meal begins with freshly baked pot bread served with farm butter and apricot jam, followed by mussels sautéed with garlic and butter. The seafood pot is the centrepiece, with three types of fish, calamari strips and prawn tails served with rice and a garden salad. For those who prefer meat, there is a hearty meat potjie. The meal ends with seasonal fruit, coffee and koeksisters.
Bookings are essential, and the restaurant runs two sessions daily — midday and evening. The beach is steps away, and the restaurant is wheelchair-friendly. De Vette Mossel Grootbrak opened in 2004 and has since become a destination for seafood feasts on the Garden Route.
