Die Skeerhok Padstal is a farm-style restaurant eight kilometers before Heidelberg on the N2, built from timber and galvanized steel sheets — materials that recall the area’s wool industry. The dining room is filled with vintage furniture and chandeliers, and the kitchen serves bread, pastries, and country dishes made with local produce.

The restaurant sits beside the highway, marked by roadside signs for drivers coming from Cape Town. Inside, the space is arranged for meals and events, with a lounge that doubles as a stage and an outdoor terrace facing the landscape. At night, the terrace offers a view of the stars over the open countryside.

The building was constructed seventeen years ago near two wild fig trees planted by the owners. The kitchen works with farmers and artisans to source ingredients, and the menu reflects the region’s traditions. The restaurant is a stop for travelers and a venue for weddings and functions.

Heidelberg is fifty-five kilometers from Swellendam and thirty-five kilometers before Riversdale, making the restaurant a break on the drive between towns.
