Rust en Vrede is a wine estate in Stellenbosch, established in 1694. The original cellar building, now a restaurant, dates back to 1780 and is a national monument. The Engelbrecht family restored the estate in 1977, focusing on red wines like Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The restaurant, opened in 2007, is housed in the historic cellar and offers a fine-dining experience with wine pairings. Tastings of the estate’s wines are available daily in the tasting room, and informal tours of the underground cellar can be arranged. The estate lies south of Stellenbosch, on the lower slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, with vineyards facing north to maximize sun exposure. Rust en Vrede wines are estate-grown, made, and bottled on-site. The restaurant is closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday.
