Under Oaks is a family-run winery and guesthouse in Paarl, set among vineyards with views of the Drakenstein Mountains. The estate dates back to 1695, when it was established as a freehold by Simon van der Stel. You stay in one of eight en-suite rooms, most with private patios looking over the farm dam or vineyards. A small saltwater pool sits near the dam, where you can cool off in summer.

The guesthouse serves breakfast in the manor house each morning, with a buffet of fruit, yoghurt, and baked goods followed by a hot dish. The winery produces boutique wines, focusing on Mediterranean grape varieties suited to Paarl's climate. You can taste these in the on-site tasting room.

The property is a working farm with table grapes and citrus orchards alongside the vineyards. Walking routes let you explore the land. The estate is a few kilometers from central Paarl, so having a car is practical. The Britz family has run Under Oaks for generations, managing both the farm and winemaking operations.
