Sentrim Tsavo East, Voi Kenya

You stay at Sentrim Tsavo East in the middle of Tsavo East National Park, Kenya’s largest protected area. The lodge has twenty-one canvas tents and five stone-walled rooms spread under boskia trees, with views of the watering hole where elephants come to drink. From the dining area, you can watch them without leaving your table.

The tents have king-size beds with mosquito nets, fans, and verandas facing the bush. The stone rooms blend concrete walls with the landscape. Both types have flush toilets and showers, and the lodge keeps a swimming pool for cooling off between game drives.

Tsavo East is known for its dust-red elephants and maneless lions. Rangers take you out to see them on morning and afternoon drives, or you can walk with guides to learn the smaller details of the bush. Nearby are Lugard Falls and Mudanda Rock, where you might spot crocodiles or waterbuck.

The lodge sits inside the park boundaries, so wildlife moves freely past the tents. Elephants often come close enough to hear them tearing branches as they feed.
