Lagoon Chalets

You stay in self-catering chalets a short walk from Walvis Bay Lagoon, where flamingos wade in the shallows. The chalets range from single rooms to two-bedroom units, all with kitchens and braai facilities. A coffee shop and restaurant sit on the property, and a playpark keeps children busy while adults grill meat at the braai.

The lagoon draws birds and kayakers; the dunes behind the chalets are for quad bikes and 4x4 tours. You can book these and other activities at reception — catamaran cruises, camel rides, or skydiving over the desert. The campsite takes caravans and tents, with shared ablutions and braai areas.

Teddy Gruhn built the first twelve chalets in 1992 after noticing a lack of holiday bungalows during family trips from Keetmanshoop. Over thirty years, the property grew to include double-storey chalets, a dormitory for groups, and the campsite. The restaurant opened in 2012, completing the setup.

Walvis Bay town is a short drive away for supplies or a change of scene, but most guests stay close to the lagoon, where the water and the birds are the main attractions.
