You eat at Molly’s Speakeasy in a cottage built in 1918 by the Fidler family, immigrants from England who shaped stone blocks with hammer and chisel for the walls. The kitchen serves wood-fired pizzas from an oven in the dining room, alongside craft beers on tap and fifteen flavors of milkshakes. Tables sit under trees on an acre of land in Henley on Klip, a village founded in 1904.

The cottage was originally called Enfield, though no one knows why — possibly after the Lee-Enfield rifle or the Royal Enfield motorcycle. The Fidlers built it weekends while living in a tent, hauling rock by donkey cart from a nearby quarry. Later they added a second cottage on the property, now home to the Henley Museum.

Families and dogs fill the benches at midday; the kitchen serves through the afternoon into evening. The beer selection includes South African craft varieties, and the wine list is hand-picked. What makes the place work is the trees — the acre of land keeps the cottage cool in summer, and the wood-fired oven heats it in winter.
