You stay at Sani Lodge & Cottages on thirty hectares at the foot of Sani Pass, where the road climbs into Lesotho. The family-run lodge has cottages and rondavels with mountain views, some with kitchens for self-catering. The property borders the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg World Heritage Site, so you can walk straight from your door onto hiking trails.

The lodge runs guided tours up Sani Pass in Land Rovers, following the route first driven in the 1950s. The pass climbs nine hundred metres to the Lesotho border, with views across the Drakensberg escarpment. The tours support local Basotho communities through fair trade partnerships.

On site there is a swimming pool, a restaurant serving meals with local produce, and a craft shop selling pottery made from local clay. The property keeps Jersey cows that guests can watch being milked twice daily. A nature trail loops through the grounds, and the Stromness mountain rises behind the lodge for short climbs.

The lodge is twenty kilometres from Underberg, reachable by tarred road. Shuttles run from Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Kokstad for those without cars.
