You stay at The Bannister Hotel in Braamfontein, a block from the Nelson Mandela Bridge and a short walk from Wits University. The forty-three rooms have double-glazed windows to mute the city, under-bed storage for bags, and safes. Some rooms have bar fridges; coffee stations are available on request.

The restaurant serves Pan-African dishes, and the bar stays open late with live music some nights. A basement venue holds events for up to seventy-five people. The hotel is on the City Sightseeing bus route, and Constitution Hill is a kilometer away.

Park Station, with Gautrain airport connections, is seven hundred meters west. The front desk can arrange taxis, and they advise against walking alone at night in certain directions from the hotel.
