Mozambik Ballito
You eat Afro-Portuguese dishes at Mozambik Ballito, the first location of what became a thirty-five restaurant chain. The kitchen serves prawns, chicken with signature sauces, and seafood dishes inspired by Mozambique's coastal cuisine. The menu reflects the Portuguese influence on southern African cooking.
The restaurant opened in Ballito about nineteen years ago. The group has since expanded across South Africa and into Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Eswatini. Chef Brett Michielin developed the sauces and spice rubs that define the kitchen's output.
Tables fill with families and groups sharing platters. The space reflects the chain's beachside origins, though this Ballito location sits inland at the Balvista Centre on Library Lane. The original team included a chef, an accountant, and two engineers who partnered to launch the business.
The kitchen stayed open through pandemic restrictions, adapting with meal plans and grocery offerings when dining rooms closed. New locations continue to open across southern Africa.
