The Old Mushroom Farm
A converted mushroom farm in Howick, with gardens and workshops
You stay at The Old Mushroom Farm in Howick, a converted mushroom farm with accommodation in former grow-rooms, tunnels, and staff housing. The farm has a community food garden where visitors can harvest seasonal produce on Thursday and Friday mornings. Workshops and event spaces occupy the old farm buildings, and a four-kilometre trail runs through the property.
The accommodation includes seven boutique apartments, a loft, and cottages, all converted from the farm’s original structures. The Tunnel Apartment, built from a former mushroom-growing tunnel, has a private courtyard with a kitchen garden. The Round House sleeps twelve, with verandas overlooking the farmland.
The food garden grows plums, lemons, figs, and artichokes, and visitors can harvest produce during set hours. Workshops and event spaces include Playhouse 5, a converted mushroom tunnel with a curved ceiling, and Workshop, a flexible space for meetings or classes.
The farm is ten minutes from Howick, in the Karkloof countryside.
