The Waffle House
You come to The Waffle House for waffles made to order, using organic ingredients from their own farm. The restaurant opened in 1991, serving both sweet and savoury waffles. The kitchen uses stoneground flour and real butter, with no additives or colourants.
The farm, called Nemvelo, supplies vegetables, fruits, nuts, and pasture-raised chickens. Leftover peels and eggshells from the restaurant go back to the farm as compost. The takeaway packaging is biodegradable, and the cleaning products are environmentally friendly.
The restaurant sits near the iBilanhlolo River, with paths leading to Ramsgate beach. A short walk takes you through Tanglewood Forest, a preserved area of subtropical trees. The waffles are cooked in electric irons, following a tradition that dates back centuries in Europe.
