The Waterberry Coffee Shop, Ballito South Africa

The Waterberry Coffee Shop is a wooden structure set in a patch of coastal forest in Ballito, with tables overlooking a pond. The kitchen is known for waffles and milkshakes, which won a local award in the North Coast Courier's Best of Ballito poll. Duikers move through the trees, and lime green tree frogs appear after rain.

The building was first put up in 2003 by Peter's family, then rebuilt after a fire in 2013. It stands on municipal land that was cleared of invasive plants and rubbish before the coffee shop opened. A forest path winds past the pond, though the exact length is not marked.

The shop sells homemade rusks, jams, and fudge, along with locally made candles and pottery. Families use the children's playground while parents drink coffee from the library corner, where books are for sale. The place takes bookings for birthday parties and high tea events.

The pond draws birds to the trees above the tables, and the water reflects the wooden eaves of the rebuilt coffee shop.
