Oranjerus River Resort Upington

You stay at Oranjerus River Resort on Kanoneiland, the largest inhabited inland island in the Orange River, twenty-five kilometres from Upington. The resort has self-catering units with back porches that overlook the water, each with a private braai area. Some units have kitchens with stoves; others have electric frying pans. All have air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and Netflix on a forty-inch TV.

The family units sleep four, with one queen bed and two singles. The river villa has a loft with a single bed above the main bedroom. White towels and bedding are standard; the kitchen includes basic spices, cutlery, and crockery. Firelighters and matches are provided for the braai.

Two swimming pools are on site. Small dogs under five kilograms are allowed, with a movable dog unit available. The Red Ox Pantry restaurant serves meals, though most guests self-cater. The resort is quiet, with the river as the main draw — you wake to waterbirds and the sound of the current.

Kanoneiland is a working agricultural area, with vineyards along the riverbanks. The resort is a base for the island, not a secluded retreat, and the road in is unpaved.
