You come to Kanu Wines for a tasting in their room overlooking the vineyards of Stellenbosch. The offer is straightforward: choose any five wines from their list to sample, and if you buy six bottles or more, the tasting fee is waived. The room is set up for relaxed sampling, with views across the vines that supply the grapes.

The winery traces its roots to the Nooitgedacht farm established in 1692, though the Kanu name dates from 1997. The current site in the Polkadraai Hills was once known as Goedgeloof, meaning 'good faith'. The name Kanu comes from a local legend about a mythical bird whose shadow promised good harvests.

Today the winery produces a range of wines, including Chenin Blanc and Cap Classique sparkling wines. The tasting room is open Wednesday to Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday. You can also order wines online for delivery.
