Alegria Restaurant
Alegria Restaurant sits on the beach in St Helena Bay, close enough to the Atlantic Ocean that you can hear the waves from the table. The menu focuses on Portuguese flavours, using fresh ingredients sourced daily. Dishes are made to order, with preparations taking up to forty-five minutes during busy times.
The main seating area is open-air under a stretch tent, while a few more intimate tables are set under a lapa. The restaurant is fully licensed, offering house wines and a cash bar. Live music and performances add to the atmosphere, with events updated via social media and a WhatsApp group.
Owners Don and Connie run the restaurant, emphasising fresh, local ingredients and a welcoming vibe. Pets are allowed in the outside sections, and the beachfront location makes it a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
The restaurant hosts private functions and events, with catering available on request. A ten percent service fee is added to bills, and corkage is charged at thirty rand per bottle, limited to two bottles per table.
The open-air dining area and beachfront location make Alegria a relaxed spot for lunch or dinner, with the sound of the waves as a constant backdrop.
