Old Mac Daddy
A quirky Elgin Valley resort with designer trailers and apple orchards
Old Mac Daddy is a resort in the Elgin Valley where you sleep in designer Airstream trailers or glamping tents set among apple orchards and pine forests. The trailers are themed by local artists, with names like Yellow Submarine and Give Bees a Chance, each with its own vinyl-clad interior and small living space. The property has a lakeside beach, mountain paths, and wide open spaces for walking or lounging.
The Barn restaurant serves farm-fresh meals with local Elgin wines, and the kitchen focuses on seasonal, organic ingredients where possible. The resort is an hour from Cape Town, reached by driving over Sir Lowry’s Pass and turning onto The Valley Road.
Groups use the space for weddings and team-building, with activities like archery and hiking. The trailers were shipped from the U.S. and placed on the hillside, where they now sit among the orchards. You wake to the sound of wind in the pines and the smell of apples in season.
