Stanford Valley Country Lodge
A farm lodge in Stanford with mountain views, cottages and a country restaurant
You stay at Stanford Valley on a 440-hectare farm in the Klein River valley, ten minutes by road from the village of Stanford. The whitewashed cottages have mountain views — most have indoor and outdoor fireplaces, with wood supplied daily. Some cottages have kitchenettes; all have private bathrooms and walled gardens with stoeps for watching the swallows at sundown.
The Manor House restaurant serves seasonal country cooking with local wines. The historic milkshed holds a spa with a wood-fired sauna, steam room and plunge pool looking out to the Akkedisberg mountains. Sixteen kilometres of mountain biking trails run through the fynbos, and a natural spring feeds a farm dam for swimming.
The farm shares the valley with wine, dairy and protea farms. It is a ninety-minute drive from Cape Town, and within reach of Hermanus and Gansbaai. The art gallery in one of the old farm buildings shows work by Overberg artists.
A host is on call to bring drinks or drop off a picnic. The fireplaces are lit in winter.
